About the 96th Airlift Squadron

The 96th Airlift Squadron is part of the Air Force Reserve Command. We operate out of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The squadron has a rich history that dates back to 1943 when it was activated as the 96th Troop Carrier Squadron. Operating C-47s, the 96th dropped paratroops of the 101st Airborne Division during the D-Day invasion. They also flew in Operation Market Garden, Operation Varsity, and numerous other missions during that time period. Since then, the squadron has flown a variety of airframes to support operations during the conflicts in Korea and Vietnam, the Gulf War, as well as in Afghanistan to support the War on Terror. Now flying Lockheed-Martin C-130H Hercules, the 96th supports the United States Air Force global mission worldwide.
